FEMME – Vol de femmes à l’Est du Burkina : Ligotée, transportée, séquestrée, le droit de la femme bafoué

Vol de femmes ou rapt! Une pratique bizarre tendant à réduire l’autre moitié du ciel en un simple objet. Et pourtant, beaucoup de filles, souvent des mineures, sont soumises de force ou de gré à cette forme de mariage considérée à tort ou à raison comme culturelle. Elles sont ligotées, brutalisées, attristées et transportées dans des conditions inhumaines. Malmenées à souhait, elles sont capturées comme du gibier sur la route du champ, du marigot, du marché, parfois, sur le chemin de l’école.

GABON – Journée test pour les étudiants grévistes de l’université Omar Bongo

Après une semaine de perturbation, les cours devaient reprendre le 19 mars à l’université Omar Bongo, à Libreville, la principale université du Gabon. Mais des inquiétudes persistent car les étudiants grévistes affichent leur détermination à faire aboutir leurs revendications sur les paiements des bourses d'études, l’ouverture d’un concours d’entrée à l’École normale supérieure et à une meilleure application du système du LMD (licence, master et doctorat).

The International Academy of Journalism offers a ten-month blended-learning training program in digital journalism for freelancers and full-time editorial staff. 

“Journalism in the Digital World”, starting in September 2012, aims to build the technical skills of journalists and to enable discussion on current media ethics issues. 

United Nations Journalism Fellowship now open!

The Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists is now accepting applications from professional journalists from developing countries for its 2012 fellowship program.

The fellowships are available to radio, television, print and web journalists, age 25 to 35, from developing countries who are interested in coming to New York to report on international affairs during the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

2012 Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism – Call for Entries

The call for 2012 submissions is now open. The deadline for receipt of submissions is midnight (London time) 31st May 2012. 

Each year a call for submissions is made, usually in the first quarter, and a deadline set for receiving entries. An online entry form is provided on this website during the submission period and details for postal entries are also given.

RFPA Feature: Women’s words from Francophone Africa: An online audio sharing platform

A reporter from Radio Aurore makes his way down to the Bertoua market in eastern Cameroon. There, he interviews a 40-year-old housewife, Miriam. With a worried look on her face, she laments that food is too expensive and it is increasingly difficult to feed her family. The report conveys the challenges Miriam and millions of other African women face in their daily lives, and makes their voices heard across the web.
